ESC volunteers will mainly support our Nature Guides in the preparation and implementation of our outdoor curriculum, focusing on reconnecting people of all ages with nature through varies types of outdoor and DIY activities. The target group will be kids between ages 6 and 12 (parents included). Assisting our Nature Guides involves these tasks: 1.Prepare event location and required infrastructure 2.Guide participants through activity and ensure safety 3. Engage with participants and anticipate their needs during event 4.Compose and share post-event information with team and participants Green Steps is an interdisciplinary organization at the intersection of nature, education and IT. As such, we give a preference to volunteers who already have some experience in organizations like scouts, roots & shoots or environmental volunteering groups in school or home municipality.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Volunteers will receive for the duration of their service a public transport ticket from Green Steps which enables them to travel within the municipality. They will be reimbursed for tasked travels beyond the municipality borders connected to Green Steps. Accommodation with kitchen and kitchen utensils, beddings, towels and internet will be arranged in student dorms or shared apartments in convenient distance from both office location and outdoor curriculum venues. If necessary, mobile phones with local SIM cards will be provided to communicate with team members.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
ESC volunteers have the opportunity to receive training on the job and obtain a Nature Guide training certification, which enables them to guide our activities on their own. By supporting our nature guides ESC volunteers experience various possibilities of exploring, expanding and developing social competences, as well as practical and professional skills (floristic and faunistic knowledge, …). Also, the participants are acquired to develop critical thinking regarding the demand and use of natural resources (e.g. spatial planning, …). Plus: On-Arrival / Midterm Training and German course
We expect all candidates to work for nature and together with children, have a growth mindset (willingness to learn → lifelong learning) and digital literacy, but Green Steps offers training on the job in regard to most tasks. Candidates receive an opportunity to improve their skill (like mentioned above) set in a team of purpose driven educators. The volunteer should be willing to speak English in public regardless of the language level. The socio-economic status of the volunteers does not matter.
