In April 2008, the association Picardie Nature built crapauduc (underground passages) along the road in the Magneux woods. The purpose of these installations is to allow amphibians (toads, frogs) and certain small mammals essential to biodiversity (for example hedgehogs) to traverse these privilege passages in complete safety. In addition to ensuring a quiet passage while avoiding the road, these 4 crapauducs were installed in strategic places. Amphibians generally spend the winter in the Magneux woods or the surrounding woods and then reach the marshes below to reproduce. These small tunnels were permanently installed under the RD116 and are connected by wooden barriers. During this ESC project, in addition to discovering the local flora and fauna, we will renovate the wooden decks and the barriers at the entrance and exit of the crapauducs. We will be accompanied by Picardie Nature.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
We will lodge in tents. The group will be in charge of preparing the meals and managing the grocery shopping. We will use bicycles for displacements. In daily life organization (preparing meals or moving from a place to another) we’ll make sure to use environmentally friendly practices (short circuits, recycling, waste management…) to remain consistent with the values promoted in the project. Volunteers will receive 6 euros pocket money per day. Money will be given at the middle of the project after signature of the administrative document (volunteers receipt).
TRAINING DURING THE PROJECT
In addition to the technical part, debate activities will be planned as well as meetings with local partners allowing the participants to get new informations to develop their reflexion. They will also have the opportunity to learn how to create certain products such as their own dish soap, or even a deodorant in glass containers, in order to limit the use of plastic. During leisure times, participants will discover the city of Amiens (cathedral, Hortillonages…). Excursions might be planned according to the desires of the participants.
