Treloar Trust provides education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with physical disabilities from across the UK and overseas. The aim of Treloar Trust is to prepare these young people for adult life, giving them the confidence and skills to achieve their full potential. Treloar Trust is looking for volunteers for an 10-11 month volunteering placement to start in September 2020. Volunteers play an important role in helping the students engage in the full range of activities on offer by providing creative, practical and motivational support. Volunteers support either in Treloar School, Treloar College or in the therapies department. Volunteers in the School or College will support the tutor groups in a range of different educational, creative and sports sessions. Volunteers in the therapies departments will support the staff with arranging and delivering physiotherapy, speech and language or occupational therapy sessions for students.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
The volunteers are accommodated on-site at Treloar Trust. Each volunteer has their own bedroom and shares bathroom and kitchen with other volunteers or live-in staff. Treloar Trust is on the outskirts of Alton, which is a market town in Southern England. It is a 20 minute walk to the town where there are transport links to other nearby towns. The volunteers will be provided with food in the canteen for all of their meals during term time and during the holidays they will be provided with a food allowance. The canteen offers a choice of meals and can cater to dietary requirements.
TRAINING DURING THE PROJECT
Volunteers are provided with training by the coordinating organisation on arrival to the UK which includes intercultural learning, practical information, etc. They are also provided with evaluation training at the mid-term point and at the end of the placement. At the Treloar Trust volunteers have a comprehensive induction to introduce them to the work of the centre, its procedures and policies. They initially shadow staff members while they become familiar with their role and they receive training in any aspect of the role for which it is required.
The Treloar Trust is looking volunteers who are keen to work with young adults with disabilities and motivated to share their time and enthusiasm with others. They are looking for volunteers with a reasonable level of English as many of the students at the centre have communication difficulties. The volunteer positions would be well suited to people who are keen to share their time and interests with young people with disabilities, those who are interested in learning more about specialist education in the UK or therapies.
