The European Youth Forum is the platform of youth organisations in Europe. We represent over 100 youth organisations, which bring together tens of millions of young people from all over Europe.

The Youth Forum works to empower young people to participate actively in society to improve their own lives by representing and advocating their needs and interests and those of their organisations. In the current uncertain political and social context that affects young people, they can be powerful catalysts for positive change and contributors of innovative solutions to Europe’s challenges.

European Youth Forum

We are recruiting a communications and campaigning assistant, in an internship position. The successful candidate will work in the External Affairs Department, supporting the work of the European Youth Forum.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Learn how a Communications team supports the work of a large NGO: How media engagement promotes policy, how campaigns are designed and implemented, and how to effectively manage competing priorities.
Monitor and analyse the public debate on topics of concern for the European Youth Forum (media, social media, and other sources)
Help develop communication materials, in connection with European Youth Forum campaigns on unpaid internships, youth participation in democracy, and the European Year of Youth
Support the European Youth Forum’s communications with member organisations
Attend meetings and represent the Communications Team both internally and externally, as needed

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Strong interest in youth rights is required
A higher education degree in communications, journalism, political science or other relevant field is desired. A background in community mobilisation and outreach will also be considered.
Languages: Strong oral and written English is required
Knowledge of EU institutions and/or legislative processes is an asset
Volunteering and other forms of previous or current engagement in youth organisations is an asset

Personal skills
A quick learner who is keen to learn news skills and learn how to operate professionally in a large NGO.
An effective communicator who enjoys working in a team.
Ability to set personal objectives, be proactive and think strategically.
Good organisational skills and capacity to multitask.
High capacity to work independently within a small team and strong time-management skills
Ability to meet change head-on, think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Computer literacy, with good working knowledge of MS Word and/or Google Workspace. Knowledge of design programmes is a plus.
Strong organisational and communication skills

TERMS OF THE CONTRACT

6 months contract with a compensation of 1 726,56€ gross per month paid under the European Youth Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Regulated under the conditions of the Belgium internship contract “Convention d’immersion professionnelle” and in line with the European Charter for Quality Internships and Apprenticeships (www.youthforum.org/european-quality-charter-internships-and-apprenticeships)
Coverage of 100% of the public transport travel costs within the Brussels region; while working from home due to COVID, individual journey tickets will be repaid.
Full time, for a period of 6 months (with the possibility of extension for an additional 6 months)
