Earthquake in Turkey and Donations

The examination of a Turkish with Germany: Earthquake in Turkey

On February 6, 2023, at midnight, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.4 occurred in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş and 6.4 in Nurdağı district of Gaziantep. Because of this terrible disaster, we lost so many lifes and the life stopped for us.

36,187 people died in the earthquake

According to information from AFAD, 36,187 people lost their lives and 108,068 people were injured because of the earthquake. The damage is huge. Earthquake mainly affected 10 cities of Turkey: Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya, and Hatay.

Is the earthquake the killer?

Nearly none of the buildings in these 10 cities of Turkey are standing anymore after this terrible disaster. Although we know that earthquake is a natural disaster, when we observe the sturdy buildings just beside the damaged ones, we questioned whether people killed by earthquake or other people who had not performed their job correcly and ethically?

Ethics after earthquake

It seems like we failed our ethics examination before the earthquake. What about after the earthquake? On the one hand, we observed many people sent clothes and food to the people in the affected region. On the other hand, we saw many people stole these donations by cutting the road of donation trucks. On the one hand, we received many responsible people from different countries to rescue the people under debris. On the other hand, we read so manz complaint of Turkish expats who are unhappy about their colleagues do not ask what is the health situation of their family. Fortunately I received those questions. My manager even told me I do not have to work if I am not able to focus. It is true that focusing to our daily tasks are harder those days. However, it is not a time to give up. It is the time to work more, earn more, and donate more because they need us.
