The Shiniest Event of Germany: Weihnachtsmarkt

The examination of a Turkish with Germany: The Shiniest Event of Germany: Weihnachtsmarkt

Those days of the year are coming. Not only in Germany but also in whole Europe, all people will celebrate Christmas. Everywhere will be decorated with colourful lights and Christmas decorations. Santa Claus, deer figures, Christmas trees, chocolates and so many other exciting stuffs…

What is Weihnachtsmarkt?

Weihnachts means Christmas in German and Weihnachtsmarkt is Christmas market. Each and every year Germans prepare a market place for Christmas celebration at the city centers of every cities. Even the smallest cities definitely have a Christmas market at the city center with lots of stands that sell Glühwein (mulled wine), Glühbier (mulled beer), Lumumba (hot chocolate), fried potatoes, Bratwurst (German hot dogs), grilled fish, cookies, chocolates, candies and different kind of souvenirs.

What is special about Weihnachtsmarkt?

Of course the environment. This is the most exciting event of Germany with full of shiny decorations! I don’t know any person who sees the Weihnachtsmarkt environment and cannot smile at that time. This is the time to forget about all of our worries and troubles. This is the time to have a deep breathe and take a big sip of Glühwein. This is a more than a right time to go to the city center with your sweatheart to take romantic photos! Es ist Weihnachtsmarktzeit! (This is Christmas market time!)

What to eat and drink at Weihnachtsmarkt?

I have already mentioned some of them but let me tell them again. If you don’t have any problem with alcohol, you should definitely drink Glühwein. There are even alcohol free options of it. My favourite is the red one, but Weihnachtsmarkt will stay from 17.11.2022 to 30.12.2022. Thus, you have more than enough time to taste the white one as well. Last year, I also tasted Glühbier (mulled beer) and Lumumba (hot chocolate). Glühbier (mulled beer) was okay, but Lumumba (hot chocolate) was too sugary. However, it might also be related to the place of preparation. This year, I will again try them from different sellers 😊

What to do at Weihnachtsmarkt?

Even if you just go the Weihnachtsmarkt and see the environment, it will be a perfect experience for you. Also, tasting the different alternatives from different sellers will be a delicious adventure. However, I will advice one more thing for you. Each cities will have different event and activities for Weihnachtsmarkt. The most famous ones in my state Nordrhein-Westfalen are the concerts and amusement park of Köln (Cologne). Thus, I will definitely make a day to visit Köln during this Weihnachtsmarkt. Nevertheless, you should keep in mind that the more famous a city’s Weihnachtsmarkt is, the more crowded it is. Hence, going there might reduce the joy of accessing the beauties of the Weihnachtsmarkt. Despite everything, we have reached the most beautiful time of the year.

Herzlichen Glünkwunsch zu Weihnachten! Merry Christmas!
